Sedgemoor Division 1
Burnham-on-Sea 2, Winscombe 1

BURNHAM finished their season on a high with a resolute and determined performance.

They went behind early and had to dig deep to come back for an ugly but very satisfying win.

GK Sian Kelly topped off her outstanding season with another virtuoso display as she kept Winscombe out until Burnham got into their stride.

Nicki Glanville, Imogen Wright and Emma Ballard were very solid and accomplished in defence and used the ball well – Glanville nearly getting an assist with a terrific pass forward to Amy Edmundson.

They then had to withstand several short corners in a row before Hattie Lambourne and Kerry Harvey combined to create a scoring chance for Edmundson.

With Ellie Bishop looking skilful and Jem Johnson as tenacious as ever it was only a matter of time before the Blues got back in it.

Ali Evely combined with Harvey who saw her shot saved before a goalmouth scramble looked certain to provide that elusive goal, but luck was not on Burnham’s side.

The hosts came out fighting in the second half and were quickly back on level terms with a really well-worked goal.

Harvey drilled into the D but saw her shot saved; she pounced on the rebound though and fired it across the goal where Carly Bush flicked it home.

From then on it was all Burnham and only one likely winner.

Bush was a driving influence and she combined with Tracey Dunn at a free hit and drove into the D.

With her back to goal, she swivelled from left to right and lifted the ball expertly over the outrushing keeper and into the net.

The whole team celebrated the goal which gave Burnham a sixth-placed finish.

Player of the match: Ellie Bishop.
