GARY Anderson picked up his first TV title since 2016 with victory in the UK Open at Butlins, Minehead over the weekend.

The 47-year-old, who lives in Burnham-on-Sea, defeated Australian prospect Corey Cadby 11-7 in Sunday evening's final in the event which was played behind closed doors due to the poor travel conditions.

Anderson began his campaign with a routine 10-3 victory over Robert Rickwood in the third round and went on to defeat Ricky Evans by the same scoreline in the next stage.

The Flying Scotsman then averaged 104.72 in his 10-6 victory over Jermaine Wattimena to set up a quarter-final meeting with world champion Rob Cross on Sunday afternoon.

The pair were due to play each other on Thursday night in the Premier League event in Exeter before that was cancelled, and the game was neck and neck to begin with.

Anderson pulled away with six straight legs to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 10-5 victory, ensuring progress to the last four despite not being at his best against Cross.

The Scot was also below his peak in his semi-final against world number 89 David Pallett but was more than good enough to get the job done, taking it 11-7 after averaging 95.31.

Corey Cadby came into the final full of confidence after demolishing Robert Owen 11-3 in his semi-final, and the Aussie surged into a 4-1 lead.

Anderson again dug deep to come back, winning six of the next seven legs to establish an advantage before missing a chance at tops which would have taken him 9-6 up.

Cadby had a glimmer of hope, but Anderson was clinical thereafter on his way to clinching an 11-7 win.
