IT was a bright, early Spring afternoon for the new captain Paul Thorogood’s Drive-In at Enmore Park on Sunday.

The morning’s Texas Scramble saw a very close finish with the team of Jon and Robert Stafford, with Tim Ramsey and David Baker scoring 56.9 to pip into second place by just 0.1 the team of Craig Cook, Danny Crook, Adam Clapp and Kev Hooper.

Enmore Park Golf Club is preparing to hold its Junior Talent Spotting Day on Sunday, April 15.

It promises to be a fun-filled event with prizes and goody bags, running from 11am to 12.30pm.

The club has a strong junior section but new juniors, both boys and girls, are always welcome.

The event, which will include a chance to hit some long shots, pitching and putting, all in a relaxed environment, will be overseen by PGA professional Dave Wixon.

All equipment is provided on the day and the club will offer up to 10 free Academy places for the year.

AS British Summer Time dawned for 2018, a large field of 18 teams took part in the Gordon Phippen Trophy at Brean Golf Club on Sunday.

The winners consisted of the Edmondson twins of Don and Ron, along with John Cranley and seniors captain Chris Stephens.

For Stephens it was his second Scramble win in a row after his success in the AGM event in February, as he helped the team return an impressive winning score of 54.3.

They won by two clear shots from Steve Bawden, Steve Barker, Mark Elvins and Dave Bailey, with Dan Reason, Les Clutterbuck, Matt Shaw and Jeff Read finishing third on 56.7.

The previous day the Men’s team, led by club captain Mike Carter, were back in action as they took on Sue Wright’s Ladies team for the Bone of Contention.

The annual match between the two sides was, as always, played in a good spirit and the Men were the victors to hold on to the Trophy for another year.

Another round of the Super Series also took place on Saturday with Murray Parsons coming out on top.

Parsons scored 41 stableford points to secure top spot by a single point ahead of four players on 40.

Barry Brindley was awarded second spot on a countback, ahead of Graham Foy taking third, thanks to their better back nine totals.

John Cullinan and Pete Dunn were the unlucky ones with 40 to miss out on the prizes, as they finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Seniors and Ladies both had re-arranged events on Thursday morning to contest.

The snow at the beginning of the month prevented the Seniors Monthly Stableford competition from being played, but a surprisingly dry course saw Colin Roberts reign supreme in the re-staging.

He scored 42 points to lead the Division 2 scorecharts, with his nearest challenger Bob Toller being some eight points behind.

It was a much closer affair in Division 1, as a countback was required to split the top two.

Both Ian Adams and Ron Edmondson posted scores of 37 points, but Edmondson got the verdict courtesy of his better back nine.

Ladies club champion Lyn Bird won the March Ladies Medal.

The leading score in this event each year is also awarded the Lady President’s Putter, and Bird won this accolade ahead of Liz Blackwell - Linda Edmondson finished third.
