Megan Rundle
MEGAN Rundle, from the Avenue Tennis Club and Mark First School, has represented Somerset County Nine and under at Taunton against Dorset, Cornwall and Devon.
Megan, aged nine, along with three other boys and two other girls, had to play six singles and three doubles matches against each county.
Somerset finished second with 32 points and Megan played a nationally ranked junior and won the first set 7-5 playing some excellent tennis but lost the following two sets 7-5 and 7-3 but had good
wins against Devon 7-4, 7-2 and Cornwall 7-5, 7-0 .
Avenue Tennis coach Craig Phillips, from Brean, has represented the Somerset Men’s Team during the County Week at Felixstowe Tennis Club and played on the grass courts for the whole week due to the
fantastic weather.
Craig competed against Cornwall, Dorset, Berkshire, Sussex and Nottinghamshire and played with James Pankhust and Anthony Hudson, managing to win more than half their doubles matches.
Craig said the standard of competition was very high and although Somerset went down a division they competed well in all their matches losing by the slim margins of 5-4.
Other local players in the team were Toby Mitchell, from Mark, and Richard Stock, from Burnham.
