SOMERSET Josh Davey produced a brilliant all round performance to help Scotland emphatically beat Afghanistan in the Dubai Triangular Series in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

After opting to bat first, Scotland struggled early on and by the 11th over found themselves 25-3.

However they recovered to reach 108-6 by the time the 24-year-old Davey went to the wicket to join Richie Berrington at the end of the 33rd over.

The seventh wicket partnership added 99 in 15.5 overs before Berrington was out for 62 with the total on 207-7 in the 49th over.

Scotland eventually reached 213-7, with Davey remaining unbeaten on 53, which came off 48 balls and included five fours.

When Afghanistan replied their openers had reached 38 without loss before Davey struck twice in the seventh over.

The Somerset all-rounder struck again in the 11th and claimed another two in the 15th before wrapping the game up by taking the final wicket in the 19th as Afghanistan were all out for 63 in 18.3 overs.

Davey ended with career best figures of 6-28.

Scotland are next in action when they face Ireland, who feature Somerset’s George Dockrell - on Monday.
