SOMERSET’S England Under 19 all-rounder Ben Green has been back in the County Ground gym over the last few days and during a break from his training schedule, he reflected on his 2015 season, writes Richard Walsh.

During the summer Green who hails from Exeter, where he also plays his club cricket, scored three centuries and also became Devon’s youngest ever centurion – and the academy star says he is satisfied with his performances.

He said: “My year has had its ups and downs as every season does, but it certainly started off quite nicely for me and I scored some hundreds, one for Somerset Seconds and two for Devon in the Minor Counties.

“However as I went into the England Under 19 matches later in the year my shins played up a little bit and I couldn’t play which was very frustrating for me.”

“I was really happy with the way that I batted this year and to score three hundreds in a fairly short space of time was brilliant for me. It was good to get my first hundred for Somerset, especially with it being at the County Ground.

Green also became the youngest centurion for Devon about which he said: “That was quite a surprise and I took the record off the current captain which I wasn’t aware of until after it had happened so I am pretty happy with that as well.

“Hundreds are hundreds and I am proud of all three that I scored - they were all different in their own ways.

“My century for Somerset Seconds was hopefully the first of a few that I will score at the County Ground but breaking records for Devon is also exciting as well.”

Talking about his fitness, the Somerset Academy youngster said: “I am building up and very close to full fitness again thankfully.

“I am allowed to bat now and do some static catching but can’t quite run yet so it’s going to be a little while before I can get back to bowling.”

“I hope to be fit for the England Under 19s trip to Sri Lanka just before Christmas and my build up to that has all been very carefully planned.

“We will be playing in a tri-series involving both India and Sri Lanka with two ODIs against each and a final.

“Fingers crossed I will then be chosen to go to play in the Under 19 World Cup which is in Bangladesh in January and February next year, but before then I need to put in a couple of good performances out in Sri Lanka.”
