Well, where do I start? It’s been quite a dramatic start to the season.

Despite all the preparation that went in to the pre-season programme, we weren’t really able to play any cricket due to the weather.

The rain that seemed to last all winter plus the Beast from the East meant that we’d only had a handful of days out in the middle ahead of the season opener with Worcestershire.

The marquee that we had up on the outfield was an absolute godsend in that respect.

To be able to practice and net on grass despite the weather will no doubt prove to be invaluable. I have to say that netting outside whilst the snow was falling was certainly a new experience for me!

Despite the lack of match practise, there was a tremendous amount of positivity going in to the Worcestershire game.

There is a great atmosphere around the camp and morale is really high. Everyone has worked extremely hard during the winter and I think that really came to the fore in the match at the weekend.

It was tough out there for the batsmen and for Matt Renshaw to make a century on his debut was incredible. He is a top player and a great bloke.

He has fitted in so well since he arrived and he showed exactly what he can do out in the middle.

James Hildreth was outstanding as well. He’s been getting big runs for years now and no one is quite sure how he hasn’t been called up to the international set-up.

The entire bowling unit were absolutely top class too.

It was a real team performance and we were obviously delighted to get the win. I’ve been told that it’s Somerset’s first opening fixture win since 2012 so it was great to break that curse!

Yorkshire are up next and as I write this they are top of the table. They are a really good side but if we play like I know we can, there is no reason why we can’t make it two out of two.
