SOMERSET Rebels’ rider Jason Doyle has won the opening round of the Australian Championships held in Kurri Kurri, New South Wales.

Jason topped the score-chart after the 20 qualifying heats with 14 points from his five rides - dropping his only point to Jack Holder in his opening ride.

Doyle’s 14-point tally saw him seeded directly through to the 'A' Final where he defeated Chris Holder, a four-time previous winner of the Championship, Cameron Woodward and defending Champion Troy Batchelor.

The Championship now moves on to Undera Park for the second round before concluding at Gillman next Saturday (January 11)
