THE Somerset Rebels wrap up their regular Premier League season with the visit of the Workington Comets to the Oaktree Arena tomorrow night (Friday).

The Rebels have already booked their place in the Championship-deciding Play-offs, but will be looking to collect all three league points to preserve their 100% home league record and keep their hopes of top spot alive.

The team which finishes top gains the advantage of having first pick of opposition for the play-offs.

Workington are led by a rider very familiar to Somerset fans - Australian Josh Grajczonek who was a member of the 2013 Somerset septet which won the Premier League and KO Cup ‘double’ as well as being one half of the duo (along with Jason Doyle) which captured the Premier League Pairs crown.

Somerset go into the match without broken arm victim Brady Kurtz and will also be without their Swedish star, Pontus Aspgren who, despite being cleared to ride after a fall in last Friday’s Swedish Final, will be absent as he is required to ride for Lejonen, his Swedish Allsvenskan club in their Championship Play-Off semi-final that night.

The Rebels will operate rider replacement in place of Kurtz with all the riders bar Olly Allen eligible to take his rides while Scunthorpe’s Nicolai Klindt will come in as a guest replacement for Aspgren.

“It is an unfortunate clash of dates as far as Pontus is concerned,” said Somerset team manager Garry May, “but in the circumstances we’re allowed a facility to cover for his absence and I am sure Nicolai will do a good job for us on Friday night.”

“With us coming back from Workington on Saturday night empty-handed as far as league points were concerned it has opened the door to Edinburgh as far as who will finish top of the league table going into the Play-Offs, but we will still be gunning for the maximum three points against the Comets in order to keep the pressure on Edinburgh as they face a very busy schedule over the up-coming weekend.”
