League Cup Final, 2nd Leg Somerset Rebels 55, Glasgow Tigers 35 Aggregate score: Somerset 103, Glasgow Tigers 77

THE ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels won the League Cup for the second time in their relatively short history with this second leg demolition of the Glasgow Tigers at the Oaktree Arena on Friday night.

The Rebels went into the 2nd leg already six points to the good hav- ing won the 1st leg at Glasgow’s Ashfield Stadium 48-42 the previous Sunday.

Any hopes Glasgow might have harboured of overturning that 1st leg deficit disappeared as early as heat 1 when Jake Allen and Rohan Tungate sped away for an opening 5-1 heat win for the Rebels.

From thereon in it was virtually one-way traffic as Somerset proceeded pile on the agony for the beleaguered Tigers.

By the time the match had reached its halfway stage, the match and, with it,the destiny of the League Cup, was already an almost forgone conclusion with Somerset having opened up a 16 point lead on the night.

With, somewhat fittingly, Rebels skipper Josh Grajczonek taking the chequered flag to win heat 11, it was the cue for the celebrations to commence as it was confirmed the League Cup would be residing at the Oaktree Arena for the forthcoming year.

Somerset team manager Garry May said: “The boys have really worked hard for this and they deserve great credit in bringing the League Cup back to Somerset.

“Once we hit home that 5-1 in heat 1, you could see there was only ever going to be one team lift- ing that trophy, and so it proved."
