STEVE Jones hasn't had the best of years on the golf course in 2012 but returned to top form with a blistering round of 43 points in the re-arranged Monthly Stableford on Saturday at Brean.

He scored points for fun as he amassed 25 points in his opening nine holes and although failed to maintain the same scoring rate after the turn he still came home in a respectable 18 points for the winning total of 43.

He collected the Division One Stableford award plus the Sam Smalldon Memorial Trophy which found its way into Jones's possession as it was awarded to the best score of the day.

Just to top off a perfect result for Steve he relegated his brother Paul into the Division One runners up spot for good measure! Club Captain Stewart Garrett came close to matching that score but eventually ended up one short of the leader. His 42 point card saw him claim the Division Two victory ahead of Roy Fletcher on 41.

Division Three winner was Jim McLauchlan in what was the only time a countbcak was needed all day. He carded the lowest winning number of points on the day with 39 and this was matched by Nigel Ellis but McLauchlan held on over the back nine holes. Jim did however card the only Two of the day at the 17th to collect a healthy sum from a rollover Two's pot!

John Sherwood was the winner of the November Seniors Stableford at Brean Golf Club after his excellent card of 39 points. It was a close run thing on a decent dry day as the ever consistent Barrie Tucker also carded 39pts. Sherwood had the superior back nine total though so was awarded the top prize and also sees his handicap reduced by a stroke for his next event. Mike Allen rounded out the top three with 37 points just one ahead of Roger Phillips.
