Barton Hill 3, Burnham 20

BURNHAM'S hard work off the pitch during three weeks of postponements paid off as they beat Barton Hill 20-3 on Saturday.

The visitors started well and an astute kick from Elisi Vunipola and pressure from captain Russ Pike led to a penalty from a scrum, which Tim Piper slotted over.

Barton replied with a penalty to level things up at 3-3 but Burnham's dominance came through and it was from a strong scrum and several penalties and a sin binning that Burnham were awarded a penalty try to take the score to 10 -3.

Burnham started the second half as strong as the first and a good team move was finished off by Piper to touch down for 15-3.

The home side tried to force their way back into the game but it was met with resolute defence up front and also out back with strong tackling from Rich Muskett and Josh Holder.

Burnham extended their lead when Jordan Paul made inroads and moved the ball to Pike who showed strength and pace to dive into the corner.

The last 15 minute saw Burnham camped on their own line with Barton Hill throwing everything at them but their defence held firm to shut the game out and hold onto the well deserved win.

Man of the match went to Sam Coles and the team travel to Avon this Saturday.
