BURNHAM boss Luke Hussey has urged his team for consistency after their confidence took a hit in a 4-3 defeat to Fry Club.
The visitors got off a terrible start conceding after just five minutes with the defence of James Cannard, Dave Bidgood, Russ Holley and Elliot Lamb finding it difficult to repel a clever attacking force.
It wasn't long before Fry Club took got another deserved goal and the game appeared to be disappearing quickly from United who were in danger of a humiliating defeat.
Claude Bitton and Warren Whitfield looked dangerous when United were able to get the ball out wide to them but it was Matt Scott who was working hardest to try and create something from very little service.
Nathan Bishop was finding little pockets of space to try and play in but possession was lost through hurried passing.
It was Whitfield who gave united a lifeline when he broke clear on the right and drove a low hard cross into the area which a Fry defender could only turn into his own net.
This seemed to lift United briefly, only for them to concede a third quickly and when Fry were awarded a penalty just before the break the game looked well and truly over but Will Lamb made a great save.
In the second half, Burnham did everything they could to get something out of the game and Elliot Lamb scored Burnham's second from a long range shot just in from the touchstone.
After some sustained pressure, Arran Hardwidge met a cross to fire home Burnham third with just three minutes remaining but there was not enough time for an elusive equaliser.
Hussey said: “The players are disappointed to get nothing from the game however it is difficult to expect to come back from 3-1 at half-time after playing the poorest I've seen us play.
“It was good to see the players respond and rectified the problems from the first half but consistency in our performances is now key.”
Man-of-the-Match: Matt Scott
