SOMERSET Rebels 2013 signing Josh Grajczonek got his season off to an early start at the weekend when he competed in the 'Ben Fund' meeting staged at Berwick's Shielfield Park on Saturday night.

The 'Ben Fund', which is aimed at raising monies for the Speedway Riders' Benevolent Fund, has quickly established itself as a traditional curtain raiser of the speedway season, where the cause and aim of the meeting is probably more important than the actual result itself.

Grajczonek gave a good account of himself, but agonisingly, he just missed out on count-back for a place in the 'B' Final after both he and Chris Harris finished with eight points from their four rides, with King's Lynn's Mads Korneliussen going on to win the meeting.

Rebels promoter Debbie Hancock said: “Josh put in a good performance after only being back in the UK for little more than a week and but for a little more luck he might have earned himself a berth in the 'B' Final, but at the end of the day, it was a good run-out for him before the season gets underway in earnest.”
