Burnham Ladies 2 ECVH 1
BURNHAM Ladies came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over ECVH on Saturday.
After conceding an early goal, Caroline Hunt and Sarah Johnson put the hosts into the lead which they held on to.
Burnham fell behind to a well-worked goal, but this acted as a wake-up call and some neat work from Amy Edmundson almost put them back on level terms.
Sarah Johnson’s surge out of defence and cross found Caroline Hunt at the top of the D.
Without hesitation, Hunt turned and cracked home a stunning strike.
They took the lead a minute later when Carly Bush won a penalty corner with her direct running to the by line. This time Hunt's strike was deflected in by Johnson from right on the post, in a classic set piece move.
Burnham were purring along until a head injury forced the combative Chelsea Fisher off the pitch and into the hospital for stitches. The second-half saw them protect their lead like their lives depended on it with a superb rear-guard display.
Despite the loss of player, Burnham seemed to have more time and space, kept the ball well and looked the more likely to score.
Goalkeeper Sian Kelly made two vitally important saves to do her bit for the team, whilst Harvey's skills at dribbling the ball released the pressure on her defence time and time again. She was unfortunate not to score herself, but created chances for her team mates. Imogen Wright gave a strong performance in midfield which should boost confidence, and both Bush and Hunt had chances to make the game safe. Overall Burnham can be really proud of their performance.
Their next fixture is away at Minehead on Saturday October 26.
