Errea County League First Division
Frome Collegians 1, Middlezoy Rovers 1
MIDDLEZOY came away from an entertaining game at second-placed Frome Collegians with a deserved point, extending their unbeaten run to eight games.
Dan Luce’s 18th minute strike gave Middlezoy the lead after a sustained spell of early pressure. Luke Oakes replied for Frome on 26 minutes chipping the advancing Joe Warren.
Middlezoy then went close to retaking the lead, first through Craig Wright, who cleared the bar, and then Lance Turner, who had his goalbound shot blocked.
Frome striker Jake Harrington almost scored minutes before the break but his header went wide and, on the stroke of half-time, Simon Bone cleared another Frome effort off his own goal line.
Dan Luce almost doubled his tally early in the second half but his effort was saved by the keeper at point-blank range.
Frome could have stolen all three points as Middlezoy legs tired late on, but Oakes was denied by a spectacular one-handed save from Warren.
l Middlezoy move up to sixth in the table with games in hand and face Division 2 (W) side Portishead Town Reserves in the quarter-final of the Somerset Senior Cup on Saturday at home.
Middlezoy: J Warren, Bone, L Turner, Brown, Lintell (Peters), S Turner (Williams), Cann, Luce, Whaites, Hall, Wright. Man of the Match: Dan Luce.
