NEWLY appointed club captain Neil Darby was joined by fellow Captains Donna Robertson (Ladies), Peter Amos (Seniors) and Charlie Huggins (Junior) at the traditional Captains’ drive at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club last weekend.

Club members turned out force to see the captains’ drive off from the first tee to inaugurate their Captaincy for the year.

Despite the pressure of first tee nerves teeing off in front of a large gallery, all four hit excellent tee shots that were greeted by rapturous applause.

Seniors captain Peter Amos playing in team with fellow senior members Mike Armstrong, Adrian Beaumont and John Pascall won the four ball alliance stableford that followed the ‘drive in’ - scoring a very creditable 80 points.

The second placed team with 78 points consisted of two ex-club captains Rick Metcalfe and David Harries, newly appointed Somerset County Captain Justin Lane and Jon Marshfield.

Playing in slightly more favourable conditions the previous days competition was won by Troy Crandon, Andy Fisher and Chris Hill who all play off 5 handicap scoring 83 points in a modified Bowmaker format.

Another highlight of the day was a hole in one scored by Derek Skett on the 146-yard fifth hole.
