BURNHAM took part in a double header of hockey at the weekend but it turned out to be a super Sunday rather than Saturday.

Sedgemoor 2

Minehead 2, Burnham 1

BURNHAM never really got going at Minehead and only looked like getting something out of the match in the final 10 minutes.

Amy Edmundson created some of their best chances as she appeared to have a personal dual with the home keeper, who saved everything she shot at her.

With only one goal separating the teams at half time, Burnham were still well in it. Kerry Harvey and Chelsea Fisher tried to inspire the team with some determined and direct running – and June England went close before Minehead doubled their lead.

When it did eventually come, Burnham’s goal was well worked from back to front. A quick hit out from defence found Carly Bush on the left. Her pass released Edmundson who played the perfectly weighted ball into the stride of Hunt who smashed it past the on rushing keeper.

White Eagles 1, Burnham 7

WITH almost the same personnel for this rearranged fixture, Burnham’s performance could not have been more different from the Saturday.

Captain Carly Bush led by example with some bright passing and movement and was rewarded with the opening goal. This set the tone and was quickly followed by another goal shortly after. June England doing well down the left and setting up a tap-in for Kerry Harvey.

Bush crashed in her second following a short corner routine, but a lapse at the start of the second half saw Eagles pull one back.

However, Burnham hit their fourth straight from the kick off – and Harvey got her second after some fantastic dribbling enabled her to squeeze in a shot from a tight angle before Bush completed her hat-trick.

Harvey completed the second hat trick of the day with Burnham’s last goal to seal an emphatic victory.
