THE Ryder Cup made a visit to Burnham & Berrow Golf Club last week as part of a fund raising campaign by Ex-Ryder Cup Captain Bernard Gallacher, who suffered a cardiac arrest last year, to get defibrillators into every golf club in the country.

Burnham & Berrow Golf Club, together with Brean Golf Club and Weston-Super-Mare Golf Club have pledged their support by organising fund raising events to purchase Automated External Difibrillators (AED's) costing approximately £1000 that may save a member or visitors life if they suffer a cardiac arrest at one of the respective clubs.

Club Chairman Dr Harvey Sampson organised a resuscitation evening for Burnham & Berrow Club members, and a four ball better ball event was played last Tuesday which was attended by PGA Chief Executive Sandy Jones who brought with him The Ryder Cup in appreciation of the clubs' efforts.

The fourball event, which was played on one of the very rare days without wind and beautiful sunshine, was won by Club Captain Neil Darby and his Vice Captain Adrian Deakins with 41 points.

Brean Golf Clubs' annual Captains' Charity Day on May 16 will act as a joint fund raising event for a Defibrillator and CLAPPA.

Anyone interested in supporting this event please contact Andrew March at Brean Golf Club.

Defending Champions, The Old Shirburnians' won The Brent Knoll Bowl once again at Burnham & Berrow last Saturday, beating The Wigorns' in the final.

The annual scratch foursomes team knock-out event between societies saw local interest with the Burnham & Berrow team losing out in the semi final.

Jean Booth and Annette Pointon won their first round match by 3&2 away at Wells golf club in the first round of the Bristol & District Knock out. They now wait to hear who they will play in the second round.
