BREAN Gold Club seniors’ captain Allen Fellingham found out who would join him in the seniors team in June's Pro Celeb Am at Brean following the qualifying round last Tuesday.

An early morning shower was followed by bright spring sunshine but a biting cold and stiff breeze made scoring very difficult for the players.

One player thought he had beaten his handicap by a couple of shots but on gaining a ruling after his round he found himself unknowingly to be in breach of a rule and was unfortunately disqualified.

This lapse let Pete Douglas take the top spot with his nett 73 which was matched by Barrie Tucker but Douglas had the superior back nine score.

In third position was Roger Phillips on 74 and the trio will now represent the seniors later in the year.

The senior’s team played the first of their many inter club games this season at home to Taunton Vale last Thursday.

Captain Allen Fellingham led his team into battle and after an enjoyable afternoon on the golf course in the spring sunshine the match was tied three games each.

THE Avalon League Division Six side got their 2014 campaign underway with the lengthy trip to Minehead.

The side who endured a dismal season in 2013 collected some useful league points despite losing the match by three games to two in West Somerset.

This result gained them six league points at what is usually a difficult venue to visit.

The Brean Somerset Bowl team enjoyed more success as they won their first round match in this year’s competition.

The 2011 Bowl winners whitewashed Tickenham by five games to nil at the neutral venue of Worlebury to comprehensively move into the next round.

Nigel Hodges was the only player over the 40 point mark as he collected the win in Saturday’s Super Series Stableford. His excellent card of 41 swiftly reduced his handicap down to 17 and meant he won by 2 from Neil Barker. Barker in turn beat his playing partner Ron Vine by a point to relegate him into third position.
