BREAN Golf Club enjoyed a double success over Orchardleigh on Saturday as the Division Two Avalon League team defeated their opponents by three games to two at the Frome venue, at the same time as the Division Six side were winning by four games to one at home.

These results gets both teams off to a great start in their 2014 league campaign as they both look to improve on last year’s results.

Phil Barry was the winner of Saturday's Super Series Stableford with 39 points from the yellow tees to edge a tie with Steve Jones on countback – and Mark Hatfield was crowned the Brean Masters Champion last Sunday after winning the April Monthly Stableford.

The Brean Masters competitors each year are made up from the Medal winners of 2013, of which Hatfield was one, plus any past Brean Masters Champions who take part.

Hatfield's nett 70 gave him Division One success by a shot from Richard Triscott and also the Masters title overall. Division Two was won by Martyn Cahill also with a nett 70 ahead of Mike Porter on 72, who claimed second spot after a countback.

Scoring wasn't as hot in Division three with a nett 75 being good enough for Tony Romeo to take the honours from Mo Sanders after another countback. The Ladies event was won for the second year running by Sheila Rouse with a nett 72.

Brean Seniors will take a two point lead to Kingweston in the second leg of the King Brean Trophy after a 4-2 win in the home leg. The first 4 matches on the course all went the way of the hosts but the Kingweston tail wagged and kept them in with a chance of taking back ownership of the Trophy currently residing in the Brean clubhouse.
