BREAN Club captain Paul Jones hosted the annual Charity Day to raise funds for his nominated causes last Friday.

This year he has two directions in which the funds will be heading with the first one being to provide an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for the golf club.

The second Charity is CLAPA, The Cleft Lip and Palate Association, of which Logan March, son of Brean Director of Golf Andrew March, was born with last November.

Surprisingly scoring wasn't as good as expected considering the benign conditions and 83 points was the winning score.

The leading quartet was named 'The Clutterbucks' was led by Les Clutterbuck and he was joined by Mel Brown and the 'older versions' of the Jones brothers in David and Eric.

Two teams returned 80 points and a back nine countback was required to discover 'Bater's Bunch' would take the runners up prize ahead of 'The Yacht Club' team.

Bater's Bunch consisted over Steve and Alec Bateman with Eamonn Wynne and John Cullinan whilst 'The Yacht Club' team was skippered by Simon Baunton with his 'crew' being Phil Hodgson and Jon and Tom Marshfield.

Fourth place went to the 'Lady Captains Crew' made up of Lady Captain Annie Williams, her husband Roger and the Hatfields, Mark and Suzanne.

The final prize was secured by the 'Towens' sponsored team led by Andrew Smith with Dave Sainsbury, Chris Stephens and Chris Payne with 77 points.

Brean reached the quarter finals of the Somerset Bowl following a 3-2 victory over Mendip Spring recently at a windswept Clevedon.

The 2011 winners will now face Isle of Wedmore at Burnham & Berrow in the last eight.

The Seniors enjoyed another comfortable home win against their Cannington counterparts at home.

In the glorious May sunshine they won by 4.5 to 1.5 with Captain Allen Fellingham leading by example with a sizeable win alongside Charlie Hastie.

The team of the day were Jeremy Savill and Chris Stephens who came up against some in form opponents but still managed to claim victory.
