Somerset Cricket League Division Two

Burnham 158-8 lost to Cheddar 210-8 by 52 runs

BURNHAM are still searching for their first win of the season but have climbed off the bottom of Division two, despite a 52-run reverse against Cheddar on Saturday.

James Annison took 3-39 for Burnham as they restricted Cheddar to 210-8 batting first.

Jim Bloodworth got the reply off to a solid start with 23, but a flurry of wickets put Burnham right up against it.

M Tipler (22no) and E Booth (30) put them back in the hunt, but when the latter was dismissed, Burnham’s hopes of winning were over.

Dan Aston and Brian Brogden grabbed two wickets apiece, while there was also a run out.

J Tinton (60) and J Butcher (40no) gave the Cheddar innings some backbone lower down the order after the top order had failed to fire – and J Houghton (34) and A Willis (27) also added valuable contributions lower down.

Burnham lost Smith for 16 early in the reply and Driver (9) departed soon after.

Bloodworth was next to go – and House, Harris and Aston followed swiftly behind to leave Burnham in a lot of trouble.

Tipler and Booth set about repairing the damage and put together a solid partnership to give the innings some respectability – when they were never really in the hunt to snatch the win and finished up well short of their target.

Burnham took 15 points from the game to take them above Belvedere, but both sides are now a long way adrift of the rest of the pack.

Burnham host bottom side Belvedere next week, giving them a great chance of recording their first league win of the season.
