Somerset Cricket League Division Three

Huntspill & District 207-5 lost to Wincanton 278 by 71 runs

HUNTSPILL & District's batsman were left too much to do in Saturday's 71-run reverse against Wincanton, as the home side well short of the visitor's total of 278.

Five of Huntspill's top six got off to good starts, but none were able to push on and make the match-winning century their side required.

Earlier, Wincanton's Dan Legg had done just that - smashing a magnificent 133 to carry hi side to an imposing total.

Matt Counsell (3-63) and Jake Randall (3-50) were the pick of the Huntspill bowlers, but few were spared by Legg who bludgeoned the ball to all parts.

In reply, Dan Cavill (3) fell early on to the bowling of Biddiscombe (2-39) - but Crawford (24) and Craig Slack (33) joined forces to put the hosts in a solid position.

Crawford soon became Biddiscombe's second victim of the afternoon, before Randall (45), Counsell (30) and Tippetts (45no) all threatened to play the heroic knock required.

But it wasn't to be for Huntspill, as the innings petered out to a crawl.

Huntspill & District travel to Long Sutton this Saturday.
