WWESSEX WATER FISHERIES PERFORMANCE Week Ending 29th June 2014

HAWKRIDGE Fish caught 51 Rod average 1.6 Fishing at Hawkridge remains difficult during the hot weather. The best sport was found in the deeper water from a boat.

Blob’s, Damsels, Cats Whiskers and Dry’s are all working well depending on the weather conditions.

Mr K Perry had the best limit for the week weighing 14lb 8oz and Mr C Williams caught five fish weighing a total of 12lb 9oz.

CLATWORTHY Fish caught 353 Rod Average 3.2

On Saturday 28th June we held the Orvis competition with 20 anglers competing and the top five heat winners going through to the final, this heat was won by Mr P Maggs with a weight of 21lb 12oz. The best bag of the week went to Mr A McClean weighing 28lb 1oz with two fish weighing 6lb plus. Mr R Cooper and Mr A Scott both took over 19lb of fish for their limits.

Fish are being caught all over the lake, but with the conditions changing regularly, all lines have been used this week from floating lines with Buzzer patterns to intermediate and sinking lines between 4 to 6 feet down using Damsel, Montana, Nymph and wet patterns. Boats did well fishing the top bays and drifting the margins and inlets whilst the bank fished well all along the lodge bank in Rowes End.

Tactics will remain a mixture depending on the conditions to start the week but with more settled weather later in the week we should see the fish come up in the water so floating and intermediate lines will work best towards the weekend Dave Pursey, Ranger

Fish caught 149 Rod average 1.9 The overcast and rainy weather this week produced the most productive time on the reservoir, but very few anglers took advantage of this and suffered by fishing in the brighter conditions. Both the bank and boat anglers did well when the conditions were right.

The fish are feeding throughout the day with some feeding on the pin fry in the margins but the fish out in the middle were taking off the surface. The most popular patterns were teams of Diawl Bach’s fished using the perfect ripple to move them around with a very light retrieve. The best bag of five fish went to Mr D Gibbs weighing 14lb 8oz and the best rainbow was taken by Mr I Blair, an early season stocked fish weighing 4lb, this fish had a tail like a shovel which put up an excellent fight.
