Week Ending 6th July 2014

HAWKRIDGE Fish caught 90 Rod average 1.9 A good week, but due to the changeable weather things have been quiet. Out of 46 returns there were 90 fish caught giving a rod average of 1.9.

Best bags of the week were landed by Mr P Southey weighing 17lb 12oz. Mr A Lovelock had a five fish limit weighing 16lb 4oz and Mr M McColl had a five fish limit weighing 13lb 12oz which included a cracking brown trout weighing 3lb 10oz. There were also several fish caught weighing between 4 & 5 lb.

Tactics this week have been slow sinking lines with Diawl Bach, Hares Ear, small black Buzzers and Cats Whisker.

CLATWORTHY

Fish caught 396 Rod Average 2.6 Another good week's fishing at Clatworthy. Best bags went to Mr C Bee, his bag weighed 23lb and Mr A Dodds had a limit weighing 22lb. The best four fish limits were caught by Mr D McConnell weighing in at 17lb and Mr P Giles had a limit weighing 14lb 8oz.

The main tactics were intermediate lines with Blue Flash Damsel, Montana, Copper Head and some Diawl Bach patterns. Some anglers also caught on floating lines with long leaders using Buzzer patterns.

The best areas were Rowes End on the weed beds and also the bay fished well along with the boats doing well in the dam.

SUTTON BINGHAM

Fish caught 66 Rod average 1.4 The fishing this week has been hard and with only 45 anglers fishing on the reservoir it makes it hard to locate where the fish are and what they are feeding on. The best fishing has been when there have been overcast skies and a ripple on the water.

The best bag limit was taken by Mr P Maggs weighing 12lb 12oz. He fished in front of the lodge using a floating line with a small Appetiser on the point and Diawl Bachs on the droppers. 3 of the 5 fish came to the Appetiser.

The few boats that have gone out have also found it hard going, as the airlines have been off and the fish haven’t been in that area where generally fish are caught during the hot bright conditions.
