Burnham 163-2 beat Wells 162 by eight wickets

BURNHAM continued the remarkable turnaround to their season with an eight-wicket thrashing of Wells on Saturday.

Rob Driver was once again on top form with both bat and ball, as he struck an unbeaten half century to guide his side over the finish line having earlier taken 3-31.

Darren Aston (3-32) and Brian Brogden (2-24) were also in the wickets as Wells were bowled out for 162 – before Driver (60no) and P Harris (53) combined to give Burnham their second win of the season.

Having been asked to bowl first, Martyn Green and Brian Brogden bowled with discipline and control in the early stages to stem the flow of runs – and Green struck first to dismiss Churches for 12.

Brogden got in on the act a few overs later as he removed Thompson (9), but Gordon (39) and Stacey (43) combined to put Wells in a strong position.

The introduction of Aston and Driver had an almost immediate impact as both set batsman fell in quick succession. From here the wickets began to tumble as Aston and Driver ran through the lower order in ruthless fashion to bowl Wells out for 162 in the final over.

Harris and Bloodworth (31) got the Burnham reply off to a flyer with a flurry of early boundaries, until the latter was dismissed by Reed (1-32).

Driver continued where Bloodworth had left off and the scoring moved along steadily.

Harris passed fifty before becoming Skinner’s (1-14) sole victim of the afternoon, but Driver was in a hurry and with a steady flow of boundaries, took Burnham to their target in the 29th over.
