Somerset County League Division 2 West

Worle 5, Burnham United Reserves 1

A YOUNG Burnham United side slumped to a heavy 5-1 defeat at Worle on Saturday.

Worle, who played direct, long ball football from the very first minute to take advantage of the high winds against an inexperienced Burnham back four, fought back from 1-0 down to eventually cruise to a comfortable win.

Burnham’s task became even harder when Alex Plume was injured and replaced by Dan Broom after ten minutes.

However, against the run of play, Burnham took the lead as Harrison Kidner, who scored his first senior goal in his first start, beat the offside trap before burying the ball past the rushing keeper.

Worle equalised within minutes as a cross looped over Steve Warren’s head into the far corner, and then they scored twice more before the half-time interval.

In the second half, Worle scored two further goals early on, but Burnham continued to battle with credit going to Owen Jandrell and Anthony Cleave, who competed well in central midfield.

Mitchell Jones, making his senior debut for Burnham, replaced Joe Beattie towards the end of the game and could have scored, but his shot went narrowly wide.

Burnham man of the match: Harrison Kidner.

Burnham United Reserves: Warren, Young, Grant (Wildin), Plume (Broom), Rossiter, Kidner, Cleave, Jandrell, Costello, Selway, Beattie (Jones)
