BURNHAM Harriers’ runner Jason Vickers described Sunday’s Great North Run as “like the Sahara desert,” after the 45-year-old completed the race in an impressive time of 2 hours 28 minutes – raising over £1,000 for charity in the process.
Vickers had been aiming for a time of sub two hours, but the unusual heat proved a tough obstacle to overcome.
He raised a total of £1,210 for the MS Society from the race, taking his total raised for the charity to £18,000.
Jason said: “It was a hard race because the heat made it feel like the Sahara Desert. I was aiming to go under two hours, but finished with a time of 2:28 in the end.
“My cousin died of MS, so that’s why I have raised all that money for the charity. I’m proud to have raised so much money.”
