Somerset County Division Two West

Combe St Nicholas 4, Highbridge Town 1

HIGHBRIDGE Town coughed up a 1-0 half-time lead as they crashed to a 4-1 defeat at Combe St Nicholas on Saturday.

Player unavailability meant that Highbridge Town fielded a young and relatively inexperienced side against a strong and physical Combe St Nicholas.

Highbridge gave a good account of themselves playing up the slope in the first half, defending resolutely and withstanding a period of sustained pressure.

They were rewarded just before half time when a wonderful left footed volley from Cam Hampson, found the top corner of the net.

Highbridge came out in the second half leading 1–0 but their resolve was broken six minutes into the second half when a Combe St Nicholas striker broke free to equalise.

Ten minutes later they were 2–1 down following a penalty.

Highbridge changed their formation to go in search of an equaliser and on this occasion the strategy was unsuccessful, as the home side scored two further goals late into the game to seal a 4–1 victory.

Town travel to Cutters Friday Reserves this weekend, 3pm kick-off, before a trip to Winscombe the following weekend.
