Somerset County Division Two West

Nailsea United Reserves 1, Highbridge Town 1

HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt described Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Nailsea United Reserves as “a frustrating afternoon” and says his side lacked the cutting edge required to force a win.

Mike Green scrambled in a 72nd minute equaliser after Nailsea had taken a first half-lead – but Pitt was disappointed to only take a point from the game.

He said: “It was a frustrating afternoon to only come away with a point in a game that we had the majority of the ball but could not really create or carve out any opportunities in, they really did not trouble us at the back and we looked comfortable with what they threw at us.

“We will have key personal back for the next game on the October 11 and we will be looking to really start climbing this league once we get our full starting squad fit and playing each week.”

A late fitness gamble with top midfielder Will Bailey backfired after 20 minutes, a she was forced off with a knock sustained the week before - and with Town having to make numerous changes, it was no surprise when Nailsea took the lead.

Town had started brightly and full of confidence with Wayne Hand and the impressive Jack Hirons forcing saves from the United keeper.

Going into half-time one-nil down, Town began to win the key battles in midfield and started to take control, with Kane Powell breaking down the right and drawing a fine save from the United keeper.

It took to the 72nd minute for Town to equalise and that came courtesy of Mike Green making an impact from the bench, as he found himself in the right place to turn the ball home after a scramble.

Nailsea really tired in the last quarter but Town could not capitalise on the possession they had and were unable to carve out anymore real openings.
