BREAN club champion Steve Bateman added another win to his year of success as he added the Tom Childs Memorial Flag competition to his list of 2014 successes.

This event sees each player get 70 shots plus their handicap to try and propel their golf ball as far as possible around the course.

If they still have shots left at the end of the 18th hole then they continue back down the first again until they run out. Despite being the lowest handicapper in the field Bateman had five shots in hand after 18 holes and made a par four at the first before ending near to the par three second green with his final stroke.

This was clear of the runner up Nigel Hodges who matched Bateman's nett 65 and used his 5th shot to find the hole on the first green.

Third was a close run thing with Jason Kidley taking it after ending inches closer to the first hole than Brian Read could manage.

The Ladies event was won by Suzanne Hatfield.

Phil Barry was the winner of the Bogey Trophy on Saturday as he defeated a large field by ending the day on +4. He held a two-hole advantage over one of the later starters in Steve Payne. Payne's score of +2 was matched by Steven Eley but with the better back nine Payne took the runners up spot.

Dan Broom won another countback for fourth spot on +1 as he relegated Stuart Wills to 5th on the back nine.

Barrie Tucker shrugged off the steady rain that fell during the 4th round of the Seniors Eclectic to post a stunning nett 62.

On such a dismal day you would expect it to have been a comfortable winning margin for Tucker but in the end it was only one shot as Barry Fisher also reveled in the damp conditions.

These two held a sizable five stroke advantage though over the third placed player who was Dai Wood on 68. Roger Phillips was the winner of the Ward Tankard and with it prevented a repeat of Tuesday's result.

He relegated the winner and runner up from two days earlier into second and third this time as he returned a card of 42 points.

This was even more impressive as a rule of the competition meant only two clubs and a putter could be used. Tuesday's winner Barrie Tucker was second on 36 ahead of Barry Fisher on 35.

Brean professional Andrew March lost the top spot in the Total Triumph Order of Merit as he could only finish 8th after a 1 over par 69 in the latest G&S PGA Medal contested at Stinchcombe Hill last week. His nearest challenger Giuseppe Licata won the event with a 64 and leaped ahead of March in the standings.
