Tribute Somerset Two South

Burnham II 49, Minehead 5

BURNHAM II climbed to fourth place in the Somerset Two South table with their sixth league victory of the season.

The hosts ran in seven tries in a thumping 49-5 bonus-point win with Wills Conway (2), Ben Gibb, Tom Wall, Alex Watkins, Elliot Donnelley and Chris Warner all crossing the line.

Conway opened the scoring with an individual opportunist try, breaking from deep to cross under the posts.

He added a penalty before turnover ball released Gibb, who raced in for Burnham’s second try, but Minehead came back and were rewarded with a fine try by their inside centre.

Wall started and finished a free-flowing move for Burnham’s third try late in the first half, and Conway went over for his second two minutes into the second half.

Watkins demonstrated his power with a closerange effort before Warner showed true determination in scoring despite being dropped by a tap tackle.

It was left to Donnelley to round off proceedings, receiving a final pass from Gibb to touch down under the posts, and the final two tries were converted by Conway.

Matt Slater led the side well throughout the afternoon and Burnham were accurate in their execution.

The only down side to their performance was discipline with nearly 50m of territory conceded through penalties.

Burnham travel to unbeaten Wyvern this weekend.
