IN round one of the Rowbarton Charity Cup, Bridgwater Sports booked their place in the next round with a sudden death penalty shootout victory over Staplegrove Colts.

There was nothing between the two sides after 90 minutes with the score 3-3.

Young Kurtis Selway had scored twice for Grove with Darren Evans scoring from a quickly taken free kick.

John Wilde, Ed Howes and Brendan Pope did the same for Sports, forcing the result to go to penalties.

Both teams missed one each in the first five and then it was Grove who missed in sudden death, allowing Sports to progress to the next round.

Nether Stowey lost 4-3 to Locomotives, having been 2-0 up – on target for Stowey were George Pike, Pat Coll, and Robert Snook.

In the Knock-Out Cup, Matthew Stephenson scored twice for Bridgwater Sports, who were too strong for Morganians, winning 3-0 with Paul Organ getting the third goal.

Bridgwater Sports drew 3-3 with North Petherton in Division One and Middlezoy Rovers Reserves went down 1-0 to Staplegrove Reserves.

In Division Two, Wembdon went down 4-2 to Milverton with both goals from Matt Washer, while a Murray Lister goal was all that split the teams as Stogursey beat Watchet Reserves 1-0 (see the Big Match on page 43.) Morganians bounced back from their midweek cup defeat to beat Minehead Reserves 4-1 thanks to an Andrew James hat-trick and a goal from Marc Troman.

Division Three leaders and unbeaten Sydenham Rangers were made to work hard this week to maintain that record, beating Alcombe Rovers Reserves 6-4 in a ten goal thriller.

Both Martyn Milton and Cam Wilkinson scored a pair with Jake Adey and Chris Gillard adding one each.

Martin Green also got a brace for his side with Andrew Land and Adam Jefferies adding the other two.

Woolavington proved too strong on the day for Redgate, winning 5-1 with Josh Crockett scoring four of them, John Higgins adding the fifth, Sam Granville scored the Redgate goal.

Two goals from Kieran Giles saw Bridgwater Grasshoppers to a 2-1 win at Galmington Dragons Reserves in Division Four, while in Division Five Bridgwater Sports Colts beat Nether Stowey Reserves 3-0 thanks to Gary and Ed Howes, and Gareth Monaghan.
