BURNHAM United’s Reserve team manager Ollie Taylor believes his young side will benefit from a tough start to the season, as they set about improving their position in Division two West.

The reserves have won just once in the league this season and currently sit second from bottom – but Taylor says their early season form is all part of a “learning curve” for both him and the younger players.

He said: “We are trying to get the playing structure right across the club and we are trying to promote youth – at the moment we as a club are happy to sacrifice results in order to get that right.

“We are not picking young players just because they are young, but because they try hard, have the right commitment and attitude – and most importantly, they want to play for the club and improve as footballers.

“We’ve been on the end of some heavy defeats, but we have played the league’s big three in five of our nine league games and that’s where those defeats have come from.”

“It’s been a learning curve for some of the youngsters and we confident of things improving as the season goes on.”
