Chosen Hill Former Pupils 24, Burnham on Sea 20
BURNHAM once again missed out by the narrowest of margins, going down by five points at Chosen Hill on Saturday.
Having raced into a 12-0 lead, Chosen Hill came charging back into the game with 17 unanswered points, before extending their lead further.
Burnham started extremely well, with Richard Muskett carving a hole in the home defence before putting Ross Babbington in to score.
Phil Hobbs added a second from close range shortly after following more good work from Muskett.
Disappointingly Burnham could not maintain the pressure and by half-time Chosen Hill had crept in front, 17-12, with two tries and a penalty.
Burnham reduced the arrears with a penalty early in the second half, only to allow Chose Hill to produce a sustained period of attacking to eventually score out wide and convert for 24-15.
Not to be denied, Burnham then put the boot on the other foot and fashioned their own style by keeping the game moving on with a succession of mauls and phases.
Muskett capped an impressive display with a try, before pulling up with a hamstring injury.
Burnham pressed on with their forward advantage and the hosts conceded six penalties in the red zone, without further punishment, before the referee brought the game to a close.
This week Burnham are at home to league leaders Coney Hill, kick-off 2.30pm.
