SPENNY’S Sports Bar bagged the first silverware of the season with a 5-4 extra-time victory over Rhode Lane Wanderers in the final of the Geoff Harvey Cup on Sunday.
Played at Fairfax Park, home of Bridgwater Town, the league’s newest side continued their impressive start to life in the Uxella League with a hard-fought cup final win.
Ossian Gould scored twice, while Sam Edmunds, Matt Brewer and Wayne Spencer were also on the score-sheet.
The sides were level at 3-3 at half-time and again at 4-4 at the end of the 90 minutes, before Spenny’s snatched a winner in extra-time.
In the Dave Hobbs Cup, Cornhill were 3-1 winners at home to Huntspill BPH thanks to goals from Scott Harham (2) and Kristian Lane – Mitch Peckham was on target for the visitors.
Elsewhere in the competition, Red Tile needed penalties to beat Middlezoy Amicus following a 2-2 draw in normal time.
Nathan Argent and Luke Parry scored for ’Zoy, but it wasn’t enough as they went down 3-1 in the shoot-out.
In Division 3 league action, Richard Cattell scored twice for Huntspill Crowns as they beat leaders Spaxton Rangers 5-4.
Liam Whitbread, Lewis Rogers and Will Bailey also netted for Crowns; Jamie Sellick (2), Les Pope and Louis Fox did likewise for Spaxton.
North Petherton secured only their second league win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Red Road Rangers.
Lloyd Beacham and Jason Mantyk sealed the points for Pethy.
Woolavington were another to earn their second win of the season, pipping Bridgwater Wolves 4-2.
Sam Godfrey (2), Joe Pearce and George Wilkinson scored the hosts’ goals.
