Somerset County Division 2 W

Uphill Castle 2, Highbridge Town 6

HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt is confident his side will be “there or there abouts” in the push for promotion come the end of the season, after they thrashed Uphill Castle on Saturday.

Two goals apiece for Mike Green, Chris Taylor and Will Bailey fired Town to a comfortable win – and Pitt was pleased to close the gap on the division’s top two to eight points.

He said: “Once again, we have showed what we are all about and avenged the home loss earlier in the season.

“The gap is now only eight points to the top two and people may think I’m mad but I am so confident we will be there or there abouts come the end of the season.

“We are playing with such confidence that there is not a single team we fear and all I ask is we continue with the football we are playing and the rest with sort itself out.”

Town went one up after 45 seconds when Chris Taylor found himself clean through on goal only to be denied by the Uphill keeper, but Mike Green was on hand to convert the follow-up.

After 10 minutes, it was two with Taylor breaking down the left and slotting the ball past the keeper.

Midway through the half, a Taylor corner was headed home by the oncoming Will Bailey to make it three.

As the second half started, Town went four up after Mike Green smashed the ball past the keeper.

Uphill pulled a goal back but Town were soon 5-1 up when Taylor went through on goal and took his goal well from an acute angle.

In the final 10 minutes, Bailey got his second to continue his fine goal-scoring form–and, with the last kick of the game, Uphill got a consolation second after a mix-up at the back of Town’s defence.
