Somerset County Division 2W
Burnham United Reserves 2, Taunton United 1610 4
BURNHAM United Reserves slipped to a 4-2 defeat at home to Taunton United 1610 on Saturday.
Having fallen 3-0 behind early in the second-half, United pulled goals back through James Ford and on own goal – but a swift Taunton counterattack put the game to bed.
United failed to create any real chances in the first-half and soon found themselves 2-0 down.
An early second-half goal made it 3-0, but this seemed to inspire United who put together their best spell of play.
James Ford’s first goal of the season gave the hosts an element of hope, as he fired into the top corner from the edge of the box – and, for the next 25 minutes, Burnham were well and truly on top.
Anthony Cleeve and Harry Wedgewood-Potts forced the keeper into good saves – and, at this stage, it looked like Burnham would score again to ensure a nervy finish.
But Taunton broke away to restore their three-goal lead with a free-slowing counter attack.
An own-goal gave Burnham their second, but it was a tad too late for the hosts who slumped to their 12th defeat of the season.
One positive for Burnham was the performances of 17-year-old Daniel Butt at left-back and man-of-thematch James Ford.
Team: Barritt, Young, Warren (Waite), McLaunchlin, Butt, Wedgewood-Potts, Ford, Hardwidge, Cleeve, Wilkins, Chinnock.
