Bishops Lydeard 0, Berrow 0

BERROW were left to wonder how they came away from Bishops Lydeard with just a single point after being held to a goalless draw on Saturday.

In a much improved performance, Jack Taylor missed a fifth minute penalty for the visitors, as well as having a shot cleared off the line.

Berrow started well playing up the slope and Jack Smith had an early chance blocked before his follow up was cleared by a defender on the line.

They were then awarded a penalty on five minutes for what looked like a harsh handball decision.

Jack Taylor took the penalty and although he struck it well and into the corner, the home keeper made the first of many top saves on the day.

Berrow suffered a blow soon after when Smith pulled up with a groin injury - and having travelled with the bare 11 manager Ryan McErlain replaced him.

This didn't seem to affect Berrow, with Scott Lismore going close twice and McErlain almost getting on the end of Taylor's cross.

Lydeard posed a threat on the break and at set pieces, but the back four off Steve Osgood, James Gass, Kyle McErlain and Jack Shepherd were playing well - and with Luke McErlain and Simon Slocombe running the midfield, Berrow continued to dominate into the second half.

With the slope in their favour it seemed only a matter of time before Berrow would take a deserved lead, but the Lydeard 'keeper had other ideas, making numerous saves from Taylor.

When Berrow did get the ball past him, Kyle McErlain's header was cleared off the line.

Taylor was almost unplayable as he continued to create chances for himself, but everything he tried was blocked by the 'keeper.

On the odd occasion Lydeard did break away through their right winger, his crosses were well dealt with by McErlain and Osgood at the back post.

In the final minute, Slocombe pulled the ball out of the air and hit a half volley from just inside the box - but the Lydeard 'keeper pulled off his best save of the afternoon to tip it over the bar and leave Berrow disappointed not to take all three - but content with a first clean sheet in 12 games.
