Sedgemoor Two

Weston-super-Mare 4, Burnham Ladies 7

BURNHAM Ladies turned on the style to record a hard-earned victory over Weston-super-Mare in a game which contained 11 goals and plenty of chances.

They started very slowly and quickly went one goal down before Kerry Harvey powerfully pushed in an equaliser. However, Burnham just could not find any rhythm and Weston scored again straight away to lead 2-1 at the interval.

Both teams looked capable of scoring as the match went from end to end.

Amy Edmundson and June England went close before Caroline Hunt cracked in a shot from the top of the D to make it 2-2.

Again, Burnham failed to build on this and Weston went up the other end and scored twice to take what looked like a commanding lead.

However, the Blues refused to give up and began to work together to create openings. Jessie Woodberry and Emma Jarrett provided plenty of energy and bite in the tackle in the midfield.

This freed up Carly Bush and Louise Peace to link up with the wingers either side and suddenly balls were flying into the D.

Harvey and Edmundson began to influence things with their direct and skilful running.

It was Harvey's determined dribble to the by-line and cut back that found Bush perfectly placed to arrow a lovely shot low into the corner.

Woodberry started to get on the ball more and began to link well with Burnham's forwards, who began to win penalty corners - and it was from one of these that they got their equaliser.

Tracey Dunn slipped the ball perfectly back to taker Sarah Johnson to sweep in another of her trademark near post goals.

This time Burnham had the bit between their teeth and this purple patch made sure there were no more slip ups. Even their returning GK Sian Kelly looked like she had never been away as she made an excellent double save to protect the score.

The team suddenly clicked into gear, none more so than Edmundson and Harvey who combined beautifully to set up the next two almost identical goals.

Edmundson dribbled to the baseline before pulling it back for Harvey to tap in and then did the same on the other side of the D, this time reversing her pass for Harvey to slot home under the GK.

Bush wrapped up a storming second half performance with her second and Burnham's seventh as she forced in a cross on the far post from the hard working Hunt.
