Somerset County Premier
Berrow 0, Nailsea Town 1
A DISAPPOINTING performance saw Berrow slump to defeat at home to the league’s bottom side.
On a very bobbly pitch, both teams made early mistakes as the surface proved hard to play any good football on.
With few chances being created, it was very much a midfield battle.
Byron Lismore fired a shot over the crossbar, but the home side were struggling to create any clear cut chances. Harry Penfold did well to cover and make a good block in the box, when Town broke through - but half time came without either keeper being tested.
Five minutes into the second-half, Town were awarded a penalty despite Kyle McErlain’s tackle being a yard outside the box.
The kick was well taken, sending Slack the wrong way.
Berrow responded well, but Town looked dangerous on the break as Berrow pushed men forward in search of an equaliser - Slack did well to block a shot at his near post.
The game soon became very scrappy, with Berrow forcing numerous corners and free-kicks.
Penfold had a shot blocked on the line - then from Kyle McErlain’s downward header, substitute Tom Yates was unlucky to hit the post.
Dave Keirle replaced Jack Shepherd as Berrow threw men forward - and he had a shot blocked by the keeper. Berrow - missing top scorers Jack Taylor and Scott Lismore due to suspension and injury - were struggling to break down the Nailsea defence, who to their credit were giving everything to the cause.
Yates had another effort cleared off the line before the final whistle went to end another frustrating afternoon.
