THE Brean Golf Club seniors team took on a team of Seniors Past Captains on Thursday morning in a traditional season opening match.

Current captain Bob Hurrell led his team to a comfortable victory of 4.5 to 0.5 and received the Shield from 2014 Captain Allen Fellingham.

John Cullinan, Richard Triscott and Clive Goode combined to provide the winning team in the first competition of the Easter weekend.

Their gross score of 63 gave them a nett 56.8 which was over half a shot ahead of their nearest challenger. Runners up were Stuart Wills, Martyn Cahill and Andy Thomas who had the best gross score of the day with a 62 but had to settle for second with a nett score of 57.2.

Hot on the heels of his win the previous day Clive Goode took another top spot in Saturday's Super Series Stableford.

He scored 41 points which was matched by Russell Shaw but Goode had the better back nine to relegate Shaw to the runners up prize. Third on 39 points was Roger Phillips.

The Avalon Division Two side suffered a disappointing defeat to opening their home league campaign as they went down by 3 games to 2 against Orchardleigh.

The home points were claimed by the Phil Hodgson/ Stuart Wills and Steve Bateman/Pete Barton partnerships.
