BURNHAM II kicked off the 2015 season in fine fashion, as they cruised to a 48-run victory over Uphill Castle Cavaliers on Bank Holiday Monday.

Half-centuries from Andy Ashfold (70no), Pete Gaylard (76) and Lee Coles (71no) fired Burnham to a commanding total of 245-1 from their 45 overs.

The bowlers followed this up with an equally impressive display, as first James Annison (2-24) and then Jake Harding (3-66) halted the Uphill charge, as they were all out for 193 inside 39 overs.

D Grubb (82) was the mainstay of the Uphill innings, but his dismissal signalled the end of the visitor's chase as Burnham secured a comfortable victory.

Ashfold and Gaylard started the innings in fluent style, finding the boundary at regular intervals to get Burnham off to a flying start.

The pair both passed fifty, before Gaylard was dismissed by Ward (1-66).

But Coles picked up where Gaylard had left off and raced to his won half-century in quickfire fashion to fire the hosts to an impressive score.

The Uphill reply got off to a terrible start as they lost Kuht, Castle and Frost for single figures - Annison and Smith (1-13) took the wickets to put Burnham in a strong position.

Biggs (21) and Grubb joined forces to rebuild the innings, but wickets from Harding, Gowan (1-24), Tipler (1-18) and Birkett (1-28) halted their momentum and eventually sealed the win for Burnham.
