Stockwood Green 1, Berrow 2

BERROW signed off the season with a win at already relegated Stockwood Green to extend their unbeaten run to six games.

The home side made the better start and pushed forward, catching Berrow out down their left, as the visitors struggled to keep any possession.

Jack Taylor went closest to opening the scoring when he went past the last defender, only to appear to be trippe- but the referee saw no foul and waved play on.

Green took the lead on 15 minutes when Berrow again gave up possession in their own half, before missing two tackles and allowing one striker to feed his partner, who made no mistake firing high into the goal past Nick Slack. Berrow’s struggle to keep possession continued, but with Taylor’s pace up front, they always had a chance - and when he was pulled back by the last defender 25 yards from goal, Berrow expected a red card but the referee was again lenient, only showing a yellow card.

Luke McErlain sent the free-kick past the post – but Berrow did draw level on the stroke of half-time, with Harry Penfold playing Taylor through and he slammed it past the keeper for him 30th goal of the season.

Kyle McErlain had to be replaced at half-time after a clash of heads - and with Dave Keirle also going off, Ross McErlain and Steve Osgood came into a changed formation.

They took the lead on 48 minutes - Penfold this time picking out Steve Leaf, whose perfect cross was met by Taylor’s header.

The home keeper did well to keep it out, but Taylor retrieved the ball and his cross was headed down into the corner from 10 yards by Ross McErlain.

Berrow were playing better now without creating many chances, although Leaf went close with a fine shot from 25 yards.

Green threw caution to the wind for the final 10 minutes but with Penfold, Jack West and James Gass dominant, they couldn’t find a way through, until the final seconds when Slack ensured the three points with a good save.

The following corner was cleared to enable Berrow to secureand an 11th place finish.
