Somerset Rebels 51, Rye House Rockets 39

SOMERSET Rebels won a hard-fought contest by 12 points at the Oaktree Arena on Friday night.

As expected the Rockets gave the Rebels a tough meeting - and on the way had produced some outstanding racing, topped off by Heat 13, of which many long term speedway observers were commenting was the best race they have ever seen.

The race was a testament of all that is good about Premier League speedway, and one that even the very best Grand Prix race would be hard pressed to come close to.

On the scoring front Rye House had been led by Robin Aspegren, with 13+3, whilst Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen had chipped in with 8.

For the Rebels the honours were pretty evenly shared, with Brady Kurtz heading the chart with 12+2, followed by Josh Grajczonek 10+2, and Richie Worrall on 9+1 - but in truth the whole septet had produced an all round in depth performance to come from behind to produce a fighting victory in the final third of the encounter.

The ‘Rider of the Night’ was presented by Sharon Lewis of the Bridgwater Photographic Society, and went jointly to Brady Kurtz and Josh Grajczonek for their stunning ride in Heat 13.

The Rebels now go on the road for their next two meetings - at Newcastle on Sunday and then Ipswich on Thursday June 18 - before returning to the Oak Tree Arena against Workington the following evening.
