Lympsham Sunday Development XI 233-4 beat Wellington Sunday XI 196 by 37 runs
TOM Gooding’s unbeaten century helped Lympsham Sunday XI to a 37-run victory over Wellington.
Gooding (102no) top scored for Lympsham as they posted 233-4, before Adam Micklewright (4-32) and Felix Grandfield (3-2) helped bowl Wellington out for 196.
Captain Tom Gooding won the toss and elected to bat – and openers Felix Grandfield (21) and Stuart Bruce (11) got Lympsham off to a promising start, before Grandfield was caught with the score on 31. Gooding joined Bruce and pushed the score to 57, before the in-form Dave Luff (50 no) joined Gooding and they set about building a defendable score.
Both Luff and Gooding took control of the Wellington bowling with some superb running between the wickets and strong shots to the boundaries.
Lympsham, fielding only nine players, knew they had to be on top of their game to win the match.
The Wellington opening pair of Gouws (36) and Campbell (32) started aggressively and put on 59 off the first six overs.
Lympsham bowlers Tom Ferns and Adam Micklewright stuck to their task and in the seventh over Micklewright got the breakthrough taking the wickets of both opening batsmen. L
ympsham continued to bowl and field exceptionally well and with Micklewright taking two more wickets and Liam Morris (2-19) also picking up a couple, the game swung towards Lympsham. However with the score on 145 off 28 overs, the Wellington partnership of Moysey (59) and Henwood (21) seemed to find the gaps in the Lympsham field adding runs at a match winning rate until Henwood was run out on 21.
In the 38th over Felix Grandfield took the last three wickets with and inspired over to win the game for Lympsham.
