Burnham 2nd XI 88-3 beat Barrington 2nd XI 85 by seven wickets

BURNHAM 2nd XI cruised to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Barrington on Saturday, thanks to an impressive bowling performance.

S Green set the ball rolling with 4-14 from nine economical overs, while L Gowan took 3-27 to put Burnham in pole position.

L Smith (2-22) chipped in with two wickets of his own for a dominant Burnham side, to help dismiss Barrington for just 85 inside 33 overs.

Only B Pitman (27no) and came to terms with the Burnham bowling, but he was left stranded as the wickets tumbled at the other end.

Pitman was one of only two players to make double figures for the visitors in a below par display with the bat.

The Burnham reply got off to a poor start as Pete Gaylard (2) fell to the bowling of J Brain (2-25) – and when E Tasker departed without troubling the scorers, Burnham were in a spot of bother.

But an aggressive 30 from A Smith settled the nerves to take the hosts past the 50 mark, while Andy Ashfold at the other end, was playing a trademark composed innings.

Smith was out with victory within reach, before E Lewis (6no) finished the job.

Ashfold finished 29 not out as Burnham sealed victory in just 24 overs.
