FORMER Taunton player Alec Chase has joined Burnham RFC ahead of the new season, as part of a new-look coaching team.

Chase, who played for Taunton between 2008 and 2012, joins as forwards coach from Hornets where he has been player/coach for the past three seasons, overseeing their rise from Western Counties North to National Three.

Chase joins current players Richard Muskett (head coach) and Tim Piper (development coach) on the new three-prong team.

Burnham chairman, Chris Jones, said: “It’s fantastic news that during a World Cup year, we have secured a new coaching team of Richard, Alec and Tim, which will complement our current group of players and our first class facilities.

“Here at Burnham we are able to offer players, family and friends a welcoming atmosphere with competitive rugby at a level to suit all ages.”

“This season will be a key year with the integration of the new development squad, formerly the colts, into senior rugby and Alec will be looking to bring those players into senior rugby with the help for Development Coach, Tim Piper.”

Burnham have recently completed a new stand which has a capacity of over 100 people and the clubhouse bar has also been completed refurbished ready for the new season ahead.

Head Coach, Richard Muskett, has said that he wants a big commitment on and off the field this season and to put last season’s performance behind them then push for promotion.

Burnham narrowly avoided relegation from Western Counties North last season, finishing two points clear of the drop zone with ten wins, one draw and 15 defeats from their 26 games.

They host Keynsham on the opening day of the new season on September 5.
