LYMPSHAM cricketer Sophie Luff says she is ‘enjoying the challenge that men’s cricket provides’ after making an impressive start to the season at all levels.

Luff scored her maiden Somerset century earlier this season and has also been turning out for Lympsham first XI in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League, alongside her dad, Dave and brother, Jack – and the 21-year-old believes her appearances for Lympsham have been hugely beneficial to her game.

She said: “Personally, my season for Somerset has gone pretty well, I had 65 against Ireland and 109 not out against Devon.

“It was my maiden century for Somerset Women and it feels like it has been a long time coming, so it was a great feeling to celebrate it with Anya (Shrubsole) in the middle.”

“I’ve really enjoyed playing for Lympsham so far this year and having not been available the last few weeks, I’m really looking forward to playing again for them.

“I enjoy the challenge that men’s cricket provides, particularly facing different bowlers week in week out, whereas in women’s cricket you get to know what each bowler does.

“Also playing with my dad and brother is something I’m very proud of.”

Luff wasn’t required to bat on Saturday as her brother, Jack, took centre stage in a ten-wicket win.

Luff has another cause to celebrate because she has just been awarded a first class honours degree in sport and physical education after completing her studies at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
